Don't move/close the Leisure Centre - it's a valued community facility. Bundling the two together smacks of cost cutting to me. If the area is going to have lots of new residents we'll need more leisure facilities - not less.

Dont move the centre - its valued where it is - easy to park, access the shops before or after use of the centre - which encourages local shopping. Great place for swimming after dropping kids at school or for lessons straight after school. If the plan is for more residents to move to the area why not expand the current centre as an indoor space using the land around it or make it a 2 storey building move the gym and recreational space upstairs and expand the pool space downstairs. Leave the outdoor pool for warm weather use.

I agree in principle with the previous comments of retaining the value of the Leisure Centre. I wonder what others think will happen to the nature of the Leisure Centre once the 520 units open up next door. Will it become overrun by the new occupants with little room for other users? Would expanding the centre on the same site address this issue? I must say, the location of the building IS convenient for linking in with shopping, schools, childcare, etc ... but it is cold and drafty. Perhaps a re-build or re-location would make sense to improve these issues. Also ... maybe a partnership with the Coburg Children's Centre across the road (who would like to move to a less traffic congested area) and expansion of the Occasional Childcare offered onsite would be a good improvement.

Thousands of new residents in Pentridge. Thousands of new residents in Kodak. Thousands of existing residents around the Coburg Olympic Pool. Despite all this, there's a plan to relocate the Leisure Centre to Murray Rd??? This is not a sustainable plan.

A groundswell of community support re-opened the Coburg Olympic Pool after it was closed and residents were forced to travel to other pools in the area, including the Leisure Centre. Any plan to close the Leisure Centre will meet with similar community opposition. If the density of housing is increased, the community services must be increased. Simultaneously closing the Leisure Centre and increasing population density is not logical.

Another survey question that has an underlying agenda to sell off more public space. The proposed "hub" on Murray rd will splinter recreational activity from the heart of coburg. this means less walking traffic & more car traffic, if one is to combine swimming with shopping, eating, picking up kids from school etc. This moves further away from the 2020 artists impression being sold by council.

The Leisure Centre must not be moved. Here is another important community asset located where people work and shop providing an invaluable service to the community. The Leisure Centre is also uniquely located near a primary school, a park and the Coburg Football Oval providing appropriate support and logical connection. If there is a need for a bigger leisure centre perhaps another separate centre should be built at Murray Road. Or perhaps the council should have purchased the Coburg High School site and relocated the outdoor pool there. Our council, in concert with the State Government, seems intent on removing public assets gained over the years to build private housing. This makes a mockery of the work of past councils and citizens who created these amenities for the good of the community.

I don't agree with the proposal. The leisure centre and indoor pool are currently centrally located with good access to public transport (buses, train and the tram), and near the shops. Moving it to Murray Road would move it away from public transport, make it more difficult to get to and increase car use. I don't know why this proposal is being put forward. It isn't a proposal displays integrated planning practices.

I was very disheartened to hear that the Coburg Leisure Centre might be moved and merged with the Murray Road Aquatic Centre. As has been pointed out, the population of the area is proposed to grow significantly, and it is hard to understand how an excellent facility such as the Leisure Centre can be under threat when this type of amenity is going to be in increasing demand in the years ahread. Once lost these types of facilities are never replaced and we should treasure those we have. Please do not do this.

As someone who grew up in Coburg and used the Murray Rd pool. I can remember why a new pool was built in central Coburg. It was built because Murray Rd was inconvenient and poorly accessible to many people in Coburg.

That fact hasn't changed. The pool didn't just come to central Coburg by chance. It was a deliberate decision taken given local opinions. Many disagreed and like most things one side won. I am not against consolidating the pools but location is critical and that is why it is a difficult problem to resolve.

Why are we going to spend money changing things that are already working fine when there are so many other things we could be doing?

Coburg Leisure Centre should stay the main Leisure hub and be expanded if necessary. It's where we go for the more serious fitness stuff and it's in the right location. Coburg Olympic Pool is a warm weather fun park of sorts with room to laze about, picnic and meet other people. The functions of the two sites are actually quite different and so it's actually not so counter-intuitive to keep them separate.
